Shao Lin Kung Fu

Shaolin Kung Fu is a general name for a special group of martial arts originating from the Shaolin Monastery in Northern China. The Shaolin Kung Fu program includes 30 basic exercises to stretch the tendons and strengthen the bones, the ten lines of the Tan Tui (Springing Legs) set, Chang Chuan (Long Fist), Praying Mantis, Shaolin sword, spear, and internal White Crane. The techniques are characterized by powerful strikes and rapid movements, emulating a flying dragon or jumping tiger. Each movement can be used for self-defense, although the primary goal of Shaolin Kung Fu is to improve health, nurture virtue, and deepen spiritual cultivation. A Shaolin practitioner’s martial skills gradually develop from external to internal, from hard to soft. The highest level of Shaolin Kung Fu is internal skill. Students over the age of seven may join the Shaolin class at any time.

Kung Fu has been shown to have a number of health benefits, including:

  1. Improving cardiovascular health: Kung Fu can improve cardiovascular health by increasing heart and lung function 

  2. Improving strength and flexibility: Kung Fu can improve strength and flexibility by strengthening the muscles and increasing range of motion 

  3. Reducing stress and anxiety: Kung Fu has been found to be effective at reducing stress and anxiety

  4. Improving balance and coordination: Kung Fu can improve balance and coordination by strengthening the muscles and increasing awareness of body position

  5. Improving mental focus: Kung Fu can improve mental focus by requiring practitioners to pay attention to their movements and techniques

$95 / month or $20 per class

If you enroll by the month, you are welcome to attend lessons on any or all days they are held. Exceptional value for individuals who want to enhance their results.

  • Saturday morning 10:30-12 PM
  • Thursday evening 5-6:30 PM
  • On break. Classes will resume Thursday January 4, 2024
  • Please note, our Saturday Shaolin class on January 6 will have a special start time of 2 PM, due to a school-wide meeting for Wen Wu teachers.
